Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR) sits on the Cam Ranh peninsula, about 35 km south of Nha Trang, roughly a 45-minute drive up the coast road. There is no train, so every journey into town is by road. Where you are headed matters: the Bai Dai (Long Beach) resort strip is only 10–20 minutes from the terminal, while the city itself is the full 45 minutes north. You have four practical options: the airport taxi, a shuttle bus, a pre-booked private transfer, or a Grab ride-hailing car.

By taxi

Metered taxis wait at the rank just outside arrivals and are the most direct way into town. Because the city is a long ride, confirm the price first: either watch that the meter is running or settle the total fare before you set off. Road tolls may be added on top. Pay in Vietnamese dong (VND) and carry smaller notes, as not every car takes cards and change for very large notes can be limited. See our taxi guide for fares and the rank.

Grab and ride-hailing

Grab is widely used in Vietnam and works well from the airport. The app quotes the price upfront, you pay by card or cash, and nothing needs negotiating, which helps if you do not yet have local notes. Coverage can be quieter late at night, so a metered taxi or pre-booked car is the safer bet for a 2 a.m. arrival.

Shuttle bus and private transfers

The shuttle bus is the budget way into the city centre at around 50–60 minutes, a little slower than a taxi because of stops; buy your ticket at the airport and check the timetable, as it runs less often than a city bus. A pre-booked private transfer costs more but locks in a fixed price with a driver and name board waiting at arrivals — the calm choice after a long flight, with luggage, or for a family. Pick by your priority:

  • Cheapest: the shuttle bus, if your timing and bags suit it.
  • Fastest and door-to-door: taxi, Grab or a private transfer.
  • Most certainty: a private transfer at a fixed price, booked before you fly.
  • Heading to the beach: the Bai Dai resorts are minutes away — see our resort transfers guide.

Tips for a smooth arrival

Many visitors need a visa or e-visa for Vietnam, so sort that before you fly. Have a little VND ready, know whether your hotel is in the city or out on the Long Beach strip, and screenshot the address in Vietnamese to show your driver. Fares, schedules and resort pick-ups can change, so confirm current details close to your travel date.
